Some shots of the progress. Rather than lay out $300 on a 20cc gasser, I've pulled an incredibly reliable O.S. 90 four stroke out, and mounted it. After all, this isn't a Zero, it's a Hollywood Zero, so should fly like one. Now, not having the right pilot is an issue, but Leeann, who painted the guy now in the cockpit, figured "Gunter" would probably prefer anything to sitting on a shelf, till I get a 60 sized Me-109 or FW-190. So, he's in. He does look a wee bit confused over our choice of aircraft for him, but I'm sure he'll get over it. Especially when I'm chasing all the P-47s and P-51s at our club. Note, the decals with the kit are crap, they are see-through, and, they are already starting to lift. So, removed the one from the fuse, and we'll paint the meatballs. Will look much better. Still lots of work to do, but now with a pilot and power, a spring maiden is that much closer!

Pic #3 - clearly he's struggling to read the kanji placards on the instrument panel!

And giving me a dirty look. He'll get used to the Zero, least till I find a Top Flite Gold Edition FW-190 D-9 for him.

And in all fairness, the Germans did loan Japan a few 109s to evaluate. Only fair that they reciprocate! Even if it is a few decades late

Paint a little fu-manchu 'stash on Gunter and lay on a bit of shaped eye-liner and he'll be perfect!

Re: Top Flite Hollywood Zero

Kevin, you've hit the nail on the head. Operational Test and Evaluation. He was delivering a German aircraft, and in return, they let him fly a Hollywood Zero? lol After all, it is a fake scale model of a fake real airplane! Movie stunt pilot taking a joyride on a lunch break perhaps!

Re: Top Flite Hollywood Zero

Engine mounting process went very smoothly. I happen to have a Top Flite Radial engine that's been sitting around for a while, so figured I might as well install that. To be honest, after all these years of building, this is the first one I've done. Wow, really should have installed these on all my radial engine beasts!

Re: Top Flite Hollywood Zero

Ran into an issue with the retracts, turns out they are E-Flite 60-120 85 degree retracts, and I need 90 degree. Argh. So setting that task aside till I can get a set. Meanwhile, installed the fuel system, fuel filler valve, mounted and hooked up the throttle servo, as well as setting up the elevator and rudder servos. Once again, my new DX-7 is being a pain, refusing to allow me to set up Flaps on Aux 1, keeps skipping past and going to Aux 2, even though I'm only using a six channel Receiver. Very annoying, but I'll sort it out eventually. Cut and glued the base for the wing fillets, and just about done the left fillet. Drilled out for the wing mounting bolts, and did a quick CG check, without retracts, I'm just about bang on. The weight of the 1/4 in backing plate for the dummy engine was a good thing.

Re: Top Flite Hollywood Zero

All servos in the wing are mounted, and controls set up. Finished one aileron, covered it with Solartex, and then painted the undersides. Should be another evening's work, and I'll have both ailerons done, and the 3 flaps. Bit of final touch up to do around the wheel wells, then I can paint the wells, and the wing will be pretty much done.
