GAS heli's are quite expensive. Do you mean Nitro or do you seriously want to invest major coin in gas?
If it is Nitro that you want Century has a great ship out, the Hawk Sport. It is very inexpensive 279.00 Cdn and is quite capable. I would say ask what the guys are flying that are close to you. Find someone that is willing to help you and find out what he has experience with. There are a few "plastic fantastics" that are great and affordable.
If you're totally on your own Century is a very affordable way to get to started. Has a good manual to........

rcpilotsteve is right when he said it was expensive. I don't think there is anyway to get into helis cheap. If you are just starting out and don't have anything, you will be looking at about $1200 to $1500 to get you in the air. That would be a 30 size heli(nitro). I'm not trying to discourage you, I'm just telling you the truth. They are alot of fun if you do get one, you will have a ball.

I would look at the Hawk from Century. The Hawk Sport is very inexpensive but has many good features like a metal swashplate and does not have many of the problems that other entry level helis have. It is an ARF. It only takes a few hours of assembly time.
