Continuous rolls

Back about 1978 I was still having trouble doing three rolls in a line. Back then the procedure was : Coming from the right at full throttle, apply right aileron then left rudder, then down elevator, then right rudder then up elevator and continue for three complete rolls. I could never get the sequence at the right time for one roll never mind three in a row. I discovered that just after the wings went vertical going inverted that all I had to do is put in a little down elevator, then a little up as it is going upright. I also found that if I exaggerated the elevator on what ever side of the aircraft was toward me it would go around in a large circle. I would get into a rhythm of rocking the elevator stick and it was easy.
