Conquest 15 tunned pipe

I have a conquest 15 mounted on a Lanier Shrike. I was going to mount a tunned pipe on this baby, but this engine is the rear exaust and the headers that are sold for it go straight out the rear of the engine. If I were to mount a header there, I would have to mount the pipe directly over the canopy and that would destroy the looks of the plane ........The question I have is for those of you who are familiar with this engine ..... The current side exaust baffle can be removed ... and I was thinking of screwing on a small pipe extention there in place of the baffle and mounting the tunned pipebehind the muffler ... actually usind the side muffler as the header ... has anybody else thought of this ? or is the distance from the outlet of the muffler to the port too great so as to get proper tunning?

Hi plncrzy,
I am building the exact same (Shrike and RJL .15) setup. I was going to go with a tuned pipe also, but opted not to since it was already a very high performance engine.
I'm not sure if what you're describing can be done...interesting thought though.
Keep us posted.

You should/would have to measure the length from the pipe midpoint to thepiston with the regular tuned pipe setup, then transfer that distance to your "half muffler" idea. I think it should work pretty good, as the tuned effect doesnt reply on a straight run, just the length is important.

if its got a wing or two and an engine - I like it!

Well, I am going to give it a try ... I phoned MACS who said that the header will end up being 2 to 3 inches depending on how the engine tunes, so I will sutract from the pipe at the end of the muffler to accomodate this measurement and see what happens.
