Parts not from Hobby shops

I love to find building and finishing stuff from other sources than Hobby shops. Yes it's good to support your local hobby shop but sometimes paying $6 - $8 for 2 bolts is just a bit too much.

I buy my bolts, set screws etc. from SB Simpson group Industrial supplies in Ajax. I picked up recently 6-32 set screws 100pcs for $3.

Today I was brousing Canadian Tire and noticed they have an asortment of neet decals and 1/8 pin striping.

Anyone else have any good sources for material NOT from hobby shops.

Maybe we can get a good list going here.

Best pin striping can be found at United Auto Parts. The colors actually match monocote and stick quite well (only you buy 200ft ) Hey it lasts !

T pins are cheap at Wal mart. There they are called "Quilting Pins" and come in two sizes.

Nuts and bolts were found at Microfastners

Most everything else is from my LHS.

Buy my fibreglassing supplies from Smithcraft at Islington and the Queensway in Etobicoke.

Buy small 4-40 and 6-32 hardware from Brafasco located all around the GTA.

Electronic parts from Sayal, Active Componenets and Electrosonic.

Dummy Engine courtesy of Gillette .

My old Hog Bipe has OS 91FS power to starboard and gillette power on the port side. I can only believe the guy who designed this can must have been a modeler.

Some obvious stuff I use is spruce spars and stringers I rip down from mostly pine sometimes spruce and the wood is free by salvageing from old pallets thrown out by various companies. I've even found some excellent oak and maple pieces for hard points.

Peel ply is better at protecting your plans and jigs then waxed paper or suranwrap and can be obtained through any composite supply store.

Clamps for building are way cheaper at the dollar store. The Dollarama at Markham and Lawrence in Scarborough has an excellent assortment at, you guessed it $1. They even have a ratcheting type I've seen advertised in Micro-Mart for $7 US per pair for $1 can per pair.
