First flight of the year :)

Today the crew and I had the maiden flight on the CARF Rookie with a Jets Munts 140.

This is a very nice flying airplane. Took off and landed in 200 feet.

The only problem we encountered is setting the failsafe on the ECU with the Futaba 18.

It would shut off as soon as we lost signal, no 2 second delay. Does anyone have any experience with this?

See you at Forest Jets.

Sweet Peter. Bryan M. Had a similar problem with setting his boomer up on the 18. Maybe contact him and see what he did.

Re: First flight of the year :)

The way I understand it is if you are flying 2.4 and lose signal the ecu shuts the turbine down immediately. The power up on a 2.4 radio is longer than 2 seconds so the ecu doesn't wait to see signal again it goes right to failsafe and shuts the turbine off.

Re: First flight of the year :)

You make a valid point Sterling. It must take from 4 to 6 seconds to reconnect. Never thought of that before.

Re: First flight of the year :)

As far as I know from my JetCat experience the 2 second delay comes from the ECU which sets a preset throttle speed at the detection of the loss of radio signal, it waits for the radio signal to return for 2 seconds and if it doesn't then it shuts off the engine. It would appear that the Merlin's FADEC is preset for engine off, rather than say idle or 25% for 2 seconds. The 2 second thing is an old mandate from the AMA.
