A.P .09 troubles...help?

Hi all,First post here.
I have surfed the forums as a guest & learned lots for some time now. This is a VALUABLE resourse we have here...
Now the problem.
Last fall I bought a new A.P .09 & broke it in on the stand as per manual until it ran beautifully.I did not fly it this winter but properly stored it.This week I mounted it to my scratchbuilt foamy mustang & brought it outside to run/setup.It starts fine with the needle as per the instructions & at 1/4 throttle but struggles to run when heat is removed from the plug.It will not allow any leaning of the needle without quitting.(increases in rpm as I richen it) & will quit if I open the throttle(even slowly)from the 1/4 position. It runs very rich only.

I AM using last years fuel if that may be it?

Any help would be appreciated.

First thing I would try is a new plug and some fresh fuel. If the engine is still at the setting where it ran well last year, it should be close enough to run decently even if the weather conditions are different. If the engine will run only when the plug is lit with the battery, it may be time for a new one. Its hard to diagnose the problem over the computer, but try changing ONE thing at a time. Try the plug first, then the fuel.

Could be a couple things.

Haven't used that engine, but an engine is an engine.

1st - might want to change your plug, could be fouled from storage.

If this fixes problem your away!

2nd - if engine RPM is increasing when you richen needle you're probably to lean to start with.

Start engine, while at idle pinch fuel line,

If engine increases Rpm low needle too rich
If engine quits with no increase in Rpm low needle too lean
If slight increase in Rpm low needle ok.

3rd - Leave glow plug connected and run engine up to full rpm

When you remove plug wire engine should go slightly rich
Pinch fuel line, if big increase in Rpm lean engine slightly

With Fuel line pinch should be slight increase in engine Rpm at full throttle.

Hope this helps!
