She also like WW2 big iron . I have a Quadra 52 and a set of plans for both the Ziroli Corsair and bearcat. If kept light and no retracts. Would this be enought to fly it. The Q52 is older with pints and not electric ignition, But may convert it to ignition later in life.
Thanks Dave

keep it light

Yes I think if you keep it light she would perform ok.I had a Vally Aviation Hawker Hurricane with a Quadra 52 loaded with flaps retracts etc at around 25lbs the Q52(with flywheel) moved that airplane with authority...Steve

You can take Steve,s word for the engine/plane match.Ziroli tends to reccomend lots of power for his warbird designs and reccomends a G62 for the two you are contemplating which probably prompted your question. You could also phone Nick Sr. and ask his opinion.I did a couple of weeks back regarding one of his designs I have underway, and he was very helpful, and also very strong in his opinions. In any case you would have to keep either model as light as you could.
Regarding the engine,if you modify later for electronic variable timing you will realize a weight advantage shedding the flywheel and coil,a smoother idle, easier starting although big magneto Quadras start fairly easily on a spring, and smoother transition. You probably wont get much more on the top end.The extra weight is not such a negative if you are installing it in a short nosed warbird or WW1 design where you would have to add lead to locate the CG using a lighter engine.
Only you can decide if you want to add the cost of an electronic ignition to an older engine like this or buy a more modern design which comes with many improvements including an electronic ignition standard and is much lighter. If twere me Id sell the Quadra and buy the newer engine.
If your engine has points you can ditch these with
a conversion from B&B as they are one more thing to wear and act up,and they do tend to add to electronic noise and interference.
All above IMO.....
