Thats where living in a city is a plus, many machine shops to be had and like you said, you make friends with one of them and you are set for all your needs.

I run a woodworking shop and trade off woodwork for sheetmetal and some other stuff when needed its the best way to deal!!
You know Andrew, all you have to do is give me a call! Aluminum? I think I can get ya some if need be! LOL

Andrew, I use road signs for flat alumimium. Go to your sign people for the highways or md's and asked to browse through there junk pile. Normally they tell you to take the ones with the bullet holes. If they are good guys you can walk away with a years supply. The signs with no marks they send back to be recovered. Green thing. I got a sign for my vaccu-form the other day and cut it with a jigsaw with a non ferous blade. Any size to your spec.and if you want more strength double it with pop rivets. I use it anywere alum sheet is called for.My FAI bird had landing gear from the wing ala P51.Just don't steal it off the road side, You have to carry two 3/4 wrenchs. If you get it covered for landing gear use it on the bottom.Mine glow in the dark red and yellow.
Hope this get you some cheap material. I got some spad mat. from Lethbridge today and going to start tommorrow.
