Well we did it again!
Another successful Air Show for the Oakville Model Flying Club has come and gone!
This was the 8th year of the show and was another outstanding effort by the club members. This show is in aid of the Oakville Food Bank. Admission to the show is a donation to the food bank as you enter through the gate to our field. Attendance this year was estimated at around 1000+ and I know the food bank people had to make a few trips to get all of the donations back to their sorting depot.
The day was looking gloomy at first but the fog burned off sufficiently to fly by around 11H30, with the show getting under way by around 12H45. By 13H30 the sun was out in full force and No. 30 Sunblock was soon in short supply.
We had many modellers from Southern Ontario attend to help with flying demonstrations and the crowd pleasers seemed to be the high speed flybys by a Simjet powered Facet 1200 Sportjet trainer type and of course the spectacular midair during the R/C Scale Combat demo!
The show was coriographed with music and our club president, Tim Deel and the orginizer, Andrew Orange kept a running commentary, complete with humerous : banter, throughout the show!
After the air show was over, 8 of our club instructors spent the next 2.5 hours letting anyone who was interested, have about 5 minutes of dual instruction on trainers generously donated by braver people then me. All told iI think we introduced about two hundred eager men, women and children to this great hobby of ours. We had about 25 of those express a real interest in joining the club so it will be interesting to see what happens.

A big round of applause to all those volunteers that helped plan, setup and execute another great day of modelling.
Ok we've had a 24 hour break... it's time to start planing next years show!
