Re: Bud Barkley 1/4 Tiger Moth Kit

Agreed, as someone who bought one of these Barkley kits on a resale a couple of decades ago, it is a great kit; all the wood parts are band sawn - which, to me, is nicer than either die 'crunched' or laser 'burnt' - smiley.

Here is a link to some pictures of plans:http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1993266

Richard, you may want to clarify whether some of pieces that did not piece into the main rectangular box are still with kit, i.e. the fiberglass cowl and upper wing center section corrugated gas tank.

www.clarkindustries.on.ca in Bolton later on produced another fine quarter scale Moth and may have some parts to sell that would fit.

The Barkley and ClarkIndustries Tiger Moth were among the first giant sized kits and people used the Quadra 35, then just about the only big engine available. Now there are many for power options, including four stroke and electric, that would fit just fine. Just about the only change in building would be to put power the lower wing ailerons by the current practice on individual servos in the wing panels.

Funny.... I have an June, 1984 black and white ad that was in the MAAC newsletter, from M&H in Alberta, who, at one point produced the Barkley Tiger Moth and the price of kit, shipped, was at that time $389 Cdn. The Clark Industries kit retails for $900, so the asked for price here is quite reasonable.

good luck,

My dad had one that flew "like a home sick angel" according to him. I flew it a few times and thought that it was a great flying model also. He had a Zenoah G38 on his, lots of power.

Re: Bud Barkley 1/4 Tiger Moth Kit

I think that the Clark Industries Tiger Moth is the Bud Barkley one. If I recall correctly he bought the rights to the Bud Barkley one at some point. Last I heard he was trying to sell the plane side of his business. I have one with a Quadra 35 in it and it flies nicely.

I just checked the kit box and yes, the cowl and the corrugated tank are there indeed....
