At one of Winnipeg bigger out door equipment places "Yetmans" I noticed a signing in the service dept. stating that any 2 stroke engines ( that run on a gas oil mix) and have been run with gasahol or alcohol in the gas, the engine warranty will not be honored.

Their reason is that the alcohol tends to hinder the oil mixing with the gasoline and in time casue the oil to settle out of the gasoline, so at start up the engine may get a feed of straight gasoline.

The only comment I have heard on this subject is that the use of 10% gas will eventually destroy the membrane in the Walbro carb pump.Considering some serious motorheads replace the diaphragm once a year as a matter of course and normal maintainance,I cant beleive this is a serious worry. If the diaphragm hardens replace it ......they are cheap.
I had not heard the seperation theory. There are some states in the US that mandate a % of alky in gas as a conservation measure (tends to be agricultural states who grow lots of corn),and its hardly likely that any two stroke engine manufacurer is going to get away with voiding a warranty(at least for very long) when the consumer has little choice at the pump as to what fuel goes through his weeder/blower/saw.
