Need help identifying an older Ducted Fan engine..

Hello all. Could someone please tell me if this engine is a ducted fan engine or not? The box says OS 25 VF however i am not sure if it is a true ducted fan engine or not. The carb is a 2CB. The backplate has a 2807 stamped on it. The right side of the crankcase has a V stamped on it and there is a SD stamped on the bottom of the crankcase where it bolts to the engine mount. Whatever you can tell me about this engine would be apprecaited. Thanks.

Hi Ramz

It looks like an older OS25 ducted fan motor. Some of the original ducted fan motors had the carb in the front instead of the rear, as most do now.

I am not sure if it is setup to be ducted fan. It has small head and the intake is shaft on the front. What I do know I have 40vf that is similar. This engine I use with a tuned pipe (haven't checked Timing yet) and run a smaller racing prop. 8x7 1/2. It comes on the pipe and is very easy to set up. Then it goes like stink. I have had it and run it in a F1 for playing with.
It is a good motor. This might help you and I think it will handle as a ducted fan or prop.

D/F O.S.

Yep looks like the old O.S. 25V for D/F, I had one way back..... Installed it in a TommyCat remember them??? Mine was in an Axiflo fan unit originally designed for the K&B 21 fan engine. The combo worked well for back then (early eighties) Pipe selection is critical for getting peak power though with D/F use also use 10-15% nitro for max RPM. Dont expect rocket like performance though, and airframe will need to be very light as well e.g. 4lb max, especially if flying from a grass field.

Maybe not!

OS had two very similar .25 sized engines, the VRDF and anther one which I believe was the VF. (I'll see if I can dig out some info to be certain...)

I suspect that what you have is a high-speed racing engine, not the DF engine. That being said, if you have a fan for it I'm sure that I've heard of people using them anyways...
