Help! I need a cowl for my Electra (thanks to a helicopter flyer "Sharing" my frequency!) Does anyone have or know someone that has one to sell?
Your help would be appreciated.

I think I have one in one of my "miscellaneous drawers.
You'll likely have to re-paint it if I do, I recall using it to test my airbrush.... I'll check for it tonight,

Cowl for Electra
I made a plug by pouring in model making plaster into a new cowl, then can you can make either a plastic cowl (vacumn form, or fibre glass).
You don't need to purchase the canopy !! Make one from the side of a large pop bottle, you can lightly spray some colour on the inside for a "tinting" effect. You can make a new "U" shaped plastic motor mount out of a small plastic bottle - I used an old under arm deoderant bottle - the plastic is thicker. If you laminate 1/64 ply to the insides of the fuse from the front right past the rear wing area and have it end in a 45 degree angle towards the bottom of the fuse, this will make the fuse much more durable and there is very little weight gain. Use solvent based contact cement to do the lamination, not water based. If you use the stock 05 motor you need to lube the bearings, use super thin oil - "turbine oil" available from home heating / airconditioning repair shops, then get some "Moly Slip E" from CTC, shake up the can well, add a couple three drops to each bearing - 30% higher RPM. If you want really good performance, go to a geared set up and use a good folding prop, like an Graupner 11x7 or 12x7. |
