What are others using to weigh their giant scale models?
I have been considering one of those digital fish scales, which could be used for crude thrust tests too,by tethering the model while its running.

Kevin, I bought a nice $60 weigh scale at Staples. It will do up to 50 pounds/ 25 Kg I think, and is quite accurate (it weighs in 100 gram increments)

if its got a wing or two and an engine - I like it!

When I was doing indoor models I made a balance beam which is really accurate and thought of doing the same on a bigger scale and hang it from the garage ceiling However my friend found a calibrated legal scale at the Hockshop for 40 bucks so I use that.

I've been using a digital fish scale for a while now. Picked it up at Crappy Tire (don't remember what I paid for it.) Measures in pounds to 1 decimal place.

I've used it to measure thrust as well. Just hook it onto your tie down, hold on tight and run the engine up. Not super accurate, but does the job. My 80" Cap 232 with a G62 swinging a 22x10 Zinger measured 27.5 pounds of thrust. Not bad for a 17 pound plane.

Another nice feature of the digital fish scale is that if you hang a bucket on the hook and then turn it on, it will zero itself, compensating for the weight of the bucket. I've done that with a plastic butter tub with a handle to measure lead weight and/or other stuff that is going into a plane.

Worth it, in my opinion.
