Dave Brown landed the plane within 35' of the landing site!!

This is totally unbelievable!
Apparently, it carries about 5lbs of fuel.

What a huge accomplishment, and a momentous occassion for modellers everywhere.

Congratulations Maynard Hill and crew!!!!

I recall reading of Maynard's exploits when I was just a kid dreaming of my first RC plane. It's great that he's still making headlines. This latest is a crowning victory for sure!

A hearty Congratulations!

It's in Ireland

Hi Guys,

I just left Maynard and the TAM team. Everyone is very excited!

Several media types are doing interviews etc.

Approximate details;

T/O 8/9/2003 22:15 at Cape Spear Newfoundland

Landed 8/11/2003 13:05 at Ireland

1888 miles ~39 hours -- not bad for an OS 61 4S

The plane was landed by AMA President Dave Brown.

[b]YAHOO!!! Maynard and team TAM does it again.I think we should all raise a glass of our favorite to the team for their efforts and success. This is good PR for the hobbie.I hope that the national networks are going to cover this story.Remember how quick they are to cover when one of ours crashes into a house or something.
Congrats again to the team.

Here is an interesting link to the FAI model aeronautics records.
He blew away the straight line distance record.

I've seen this plane uip close and it'a a real piece of technology. They use something similar to statlite animal tracking to follow it and they use gps navigation to fly it on it's course. The fuel is in the wings and fuse. the plane weighs something like 10.5lbs. It looks like a 60 size plane and flys like a powered glider. The flight control included in the plane are one barn door aileron that mesures about 2" by maybe 12" and a standard style of elevator siilar in size to that of a 40 size trianer.

Carl, give maynard and his team my congradulations for making it to ireland. I bet maynard and his team haven't had a minute to themselves since they landed.
