Took a lesson

I decided I needed a lesson to push me to the next stage. I was hooked up to a buddy box using the instructors equipment and heli. Less pucker factor there. Once my skill (or lack there of) was accessed, Darren gave me full control and only took over when absolutely necessary which I'm happy to say wasn't too often. I had my first nose in hover experience and was real glad I wasn't on my own. He let me wonder all over the sky trying to maintain some sort of contol while putting in the wrong inputs. I eventually yelled to take it as I was getting flustered. Eventually, I got a the hang of it to a reasonable degree, but not enough to want to do it own my own that high up.

I also got into some forward flight, stopping and backward flight while trying to maintain the same altitude. It was almost non stop for 2 hours. Now, for some more practice. I think I will try nose in hover starting in that position and keeping it low to the ground to hopefully minimize the chance of another major repair.

Darren runs out of the Toronto Heli Club.
I never crash...I land with style!

I got to fly Jordan's Hawk on Sunday. We hooked up 2 X 8103's together. Iwasa able to hover, did a stall turn and a bit of nose in hover. It was an absolute blast. I got my practice on my old NHP v9 sim, goes to show how valuble sims are.

Jan's flight was pretty cool. He took off and hovered for a bit, and then proceeded into forward flight, into a stall turn, and lots of nose in hover. I think he flew for about 8 minutes. I took over and landed, but I think he could have done it no problem. The buddy system turned out to be a formality in this case. Sim's really are a valuable tool. I learned to fly heli's on them, and so did Jan, and we have both had excellent results. Now if only I could pick up Jan's aerobatic's skills as quick as he picked up heli's!!
