Removing film glue

Im recovering a large IMAC model previously done with Moneycoat with a precoat of stickum on all the wood surfaces. The film came off easily enough but sanding and filling is impossible with the glue on the wood.
Anyone ever faced this problem and solved it? Im planning on coating the model with a good quality liquid contact glue thinner like Lepage and wipe it down with paper towels.........

sticky stuff

why not heat it a bit with the hot air gun - then re-use it to help tack down the new iron on stuff?
or are you going to paint it?

Im shooting for an el superbo finish and there are lots of dings and cracks to fill and and some repairs and replacement panels too,all of which require sanding........

Just went through that Kevin the best remover was Goo be gone or something of that nature from crappy tire. It worked so so. I tried thinners all kinds of solvents. The very best was the Monokote Trim Solvent wow its expensive and you have to do it outside with the wind at your back. Kevin I finally gave up going the solvent route and just ended up sanding mine.

Just went through this. Use acetone(laquer thinner) in a well-ventilated area. Wipe is down with a cloth soaked with the stuff, it will take off all the excess glue. Then fine sand and it should be good.

Watch the acetone it eats foam even the fumes do and it is the solvent in the debonders for CA glues.

Thanks to all who replied.I tried acetone and it worked not too badly, but left enough stickum on the frame to clog the sandpaper.
What did work very well was SIG dope thinner, brushed on and immediatley wiped off with a paper towel, which lifted the glue totally and left the wood sandable as soon as it was dry.........
