can anyone expound on the reasons for the dots on the JR grey case crystals
and does it really matter = IE I have a system withthe dot on the left and can get a crystal withthe dot on the right
how much does it really matter

Taken from a posting on RCU from Danny the JR expert:

The dots indicate where the crystal is cut in relation to the true frequency of the crystal, as it would be viewed on a scope. Either left or right of the exact frequency. Generally it is recommended to avoid flying with oposite dots, meaning the transmitter with a left dot and the receiver with a right dot or vice versa, but with todays level of tuning it does not have a large affect on performance. It makes very little difference overall, but is a way that JR allows users to optimize their set up.

When I first switched to JR a number of years ago, I paid attention to the dots. I no longer do due to the reasons cited above.

As always, do a thorough range check with any new radio equipment, especially new crystals.
