Yes, that would be a hoot. I haven't seen those since '77-'78. We should find an open weekend to get together after I get the new Baby up in the air. I'm packing a build bag for Dalton just in case it arrives in the early part of the week. See you soon.

Re: The Heli-Baby Revival

I just got the invoice for the motor so things are looking very good that I will be able to get it at the Dalton Southern Scale Challenge. I am looking forward to doing the build and everyone should have a little chuckle when they see it finished. I am thinking RCAF markings for something completely different but in keeping with my CH-139. Take care.

Re: The Heli-Baby Revival

Well, I am here in Florida and am the proud owner of the prototype 40th Anniversary HeliBaby. The kit is still up to two months away from production and I had an awful crash quotient last weekend so the importer asked me if I would like to have a shot at the prototype and I jumped at it. I don't know if I will ever get a production model but my wife said she might speak to Helicopter Santa about me getting it for Christmas. I will post some pictures once I get home. The complete electronics are from the ill fated CH-139 and have already put it up in the air but doing things at the club always leaves a few things forgotten so I did a full setup once I got into the hotel room. It flies great but there are some adjustments that might be needed in the elevator axis for removing some bobbing. Take care.

Re: The Heli-Baby Revival

I found out that I can resize pictures for posting with a standard program on my notebook. These are shots of the helicopter after I had reworked the wiring and have it ready for the canopy. This poor heli had been bounced on the ground from a very great height as I made an error during setup. While doing a very high altitude loop (just in case), the servo arm to the elevator popped off, as I had not installed the screws after doing some major adjustments. The landing gear were bent, the boom was struck, and the canopy exploded on impact. I am picking up the new parts at another fun-fly in two weekends from now and will get some shots of it once all parts are replaced. Here are the pictures of it for now. Take care.

Don

PS: You're not imagining things, the tail is on the left side rather than the normal right side, for a clockwise rotation setup.

Re: The Heli-Baby Revival

Thanks, Max. I hope to have it back together next Friday. The fellow I picked up this helicopter from has a reproduction kit that was produced about 2009. I missed that group and it really bummed me out so to have the opportunity to get this prototype, and the first production kit off the line, has really made my year. Take care.

Re: The Heli-Baby Revival

I am back in town with the Heli-Baby in good shape. I got the new parts at the Port St. Lucie Heli Smackdown and put the boom in once I got home. My wife took some pictures of it in the air for me. Unbeknownst to me, the BEC that I had in this helicopter was severely damages in the crash of the 139. The tail of the F-16 crushed the ESC which destroyed an IC on the board. The output was full voltage of the LiPo but very little current. When I pulled full collective so I could do some high speed flying yesterday, the ESC went into low voltage mode and I landed it. I tested the battery and it was still at about 65% capacity. I then flew it for another three minutes but didn't try pulling any hard maneuvers, landed it, and the capacity was still 50%. I am hoping that the ESC was not damaged but I have two backup ESC's just in case. Careful testing will ensue. Take care.

Re: The Heli-Baby Revival

Bruce has been replaced by the pilot from the TOW Defender. He is a much better fit and I will be able to build a simple set of pedals for his feet which are very flexible. I plan to build the instrument panel as it had broken off in Germany and through an oversight, was not packaged up with the helicopter. I have also fitted a homemade horizontal fin which was also forgotten on the prototype but it will be there on the kit. I think lights may find their way onto this helicopter.
