I drain my planes (usually just hookup the pump, give a few twirls to fill the line, then drop the tank on the ground and let gravity siphon it).
I had one stopper start backing out of a tank...the neck of the tank was wedge shaped and the sideways force on the stopper pushed it out just far enough for it to leak slightly when full (up to the stopper level). If I had left it full in storage, it would have been a heck of a mess...
