First fully progammed flight today!

Hi guys,

I just wanted to share a bit here.... Ive been off the heli hobby for a while now, I still have my high end Hoss X5R, X4E's, Phazor 600E (99% done), and my scale Jet Ranger (Guai Hurri 550), but haven't flown for two years.... This summer i built a 550 Carbon Bumblebee Quad rotor from hobbyking, and put a Pixhawk combo kit on it, with the NEO M8N GPS/3DR telemetry, minumosd, I2C splitter, Fat Shark FPV camera and googles, etc... The toughest part was getting my Spektrum Dx7 to do six flight modes using the 3 way flight mode toggle and gear switch! (mixing, mixing, and more mixing!!) And along the Dx7 im using my Galaxy Note 3 with Tower to communicate with the Quad! I made a holder that hold the phone just above the radio, works great!

Well, Ive been flying it in simple mode stabilize, loiter, and pos hold for a week or so, making sure the GPS worked good, and it would RTL.... So, today I finally used mission planner to plan a fully autonomous flight! I did 9 way-points, and changed altitudes between them, and loitered between six of them.... I sent the 550 up to 100 meters and all I can say is WOW man, was that ever fun!!! 100 meters is alot higher than I thought it would be! All i have for a camera is a cheap Emerson "mini go pro type thingy" capable of 720p. The views over my small town was super awesome!!! And ill say, I was shaking as it went through its steps, all the ready to flip the switch and take manual control if need be! But I didn't have to! it performed spectacularly! Jeez, I can say I been bit by the bug now!! I'm starting to think of putting on some retractable landing gear, getting a brushless gimble, and new camera of some sort, better quality needed.

Yep, It was a blast!! Next week ill have 6 new 2350 mah 4s 40c packs from hobbycity, and ill imagine i should get around 30 min of flight time out of them in parallel.... Im getting 20 min or so out of my old 2200 MaH 4s packs (x2 4400 MaH).

Jeez this is fun! New FPV TX needed for further distance, a new Radio, prolly a Taranis, and it dont stop there... I wanna build a 650 mm sized quad this winter, with another pixhawk handling all the calculations

Maybe ill see if someone wants to trade for my Heli's

Well thats all for now, I just wanted to share!

WOW. Good stuff.

I would like to know more about your flight controller. Where did you get it, how hard was it to set up, how does it connect to the downlink interface?
