I've read the RC Groups thread a few times, this one too & have downloaded all the manuals & was just looking very carefully at the ARf's battery tray and area. I have started my build today & am doing the fuselage first so I can carefully plan any changes without sacrificing strength but also keeping the weight at it's design weight. I like to scratch build so I've got a pretty good variety of materials on hand plus I have about 40 years of Corvette restoration under my belt & am very handy with fiberglass.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

Good to know about the fibreglass experience. Was that with polyester or epoxy resins ? As you may already know but others may not that polyester does not go over slow setting epoxy glues. In many years past I found that the only epoxy that it would go over was 5 minute . That may have changed as that was many years ago I found out the hard was.....best to test because if they changed the 5 minute epoxies that may not work currently .

What I have found the best to work with is Pacer Finishing resin . Some have used West Systems ,good as well but they make many epoxies with some being better to work with in thin amounts . Myself, I have not used it so can't make any suggestions .

If you like building and want a nice interior I'm sure you will be glad you copied it.

Shout out if you want any pics, I'm still wide open in that area and can pop a few off. Can do boroscope shots of FWD end too if more details are needed.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

Len, I don't use any fast epoxies & I'm not thinking of glassing the exterior of the plane. I can & have made light but strong battery trays etc with fiberglass & could use it to modify / strengthen any area I feel might be weakened by making a battery access door.

David any photos of how they did it would be very helpful.

Thanks Larry

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

Some top down shots. Looking forward from inside and outside.

Center brace is 1/4 inch ply.

Trying to upload some pics but getting some "Security Token Missing" error. Saw this before but forget how to fix it.

Multiple uploads seem to be a problem.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

Top down shot and looking FWD.

Center brace is 1/4 ply.

I added the uprights under the servo trays, they were too flimsy

From underneath, ply hatch doubler is about 3/32.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

May have to buy the Android program for the boroscope. It said there would be a Watermark but it seems to wash-out the whole still shot.

There is a battery holder bulkhead between the main one and firewall.

Re: Top Flite Cessna 182

The center brace extends right through the main gear box. I looked inside the front and it does not extend any farther. Looking FWD inside the box, looking AFT, and the last pic is aft side of gear box where it pokes through.
