Lousy service from Desert Aircraft Engines.

I own four DA Engines, one of the mufflers on my DA 120 broke off right at the weld. I got in contact with this " Gentleman" Tony at Desert Aircraft. I told him what had happened and asked what I should do. To which somewhat sarcastically he told me to buy another one. I was also told that the particular muffler had changed in design and wasn't covered by any warranty. I made Tony aware that I had the bill of sale for the mufflers. Mufflers being a year old since purchase. In other words it shouldn't matter when they stopped making that particular style of muffler. I purchased a year ago so it must had been sitting at the hobby shop for whatever time. Perhaps it is a good idea to start purchasing Made in China Engines. Thank you so much for supporting North American Products. Frank

Re: Lousy service from Desert Aircraft Engines.

Customer care is what its all about. Having experienced amazing care from Horizon, I cant image how crappy it is to have a manufacturer that behaves in such an arrogant manner.

Take your money elsewhere to a manufacturer that looks after thier customer.

I for one think that DA service is the best in the business hands down, bar none!!! My money is on DA..... buy the China knock off, as I do have a couple......get what you pay for!!! They run ok... but the quality and workmanship is not in the same league....and when you need service or support, im sure Bing Bang Bong from China will return your call......

Nice that DA's working well for you. Obviously not for Frank, and since this is his thread... carry on, Frank.

EDIT: trumpetman makes a valid point. Diablo, I apologize.

It is easy to get a bad attitude from an 'Employee' on the phone.

Send an Email and see what a 'Responsible' person has to say when they have ALL the facts and know that there will be a paper trail (electronic) of their comments.

It is a passive - aggressive way to get their attention.

Love DA engines, also not a big fan of their service. That being said 20% of the time my Tims coffee sucks so bad I have to toss it, still go back because of the crack addiction, it's no different.

Frank started the thread with a blanket statement and thread title stating that DA gives lousy customer service. Just because he started the thread does not mean that we can't disagree with him. I will add my voice to the contrary. Desert Aircraft is well known for providing great customer service. They stand behind their product. They are also the only engine manufacturer who sponsers the hobby in meaningful ways such as sponsoring the Tuscon Aerobatic Shootout. I don't know why you ran into an issue with the muffler but why not try to take your concerns higher up the food chain before making a broad accusation of poor service on an open forum. My two cents...

Why should he have to escalate this? We are in the era of open forums, DA should conduct themselves accordingly...

Re: Lousy service from Desert Aircraft Engines.

Ive never had an issue with the service from Da. Im surprised of the atitiude you recieved from Tony. Maybe a bad day....cant say.
Can the muffler be rewelded?
Send a email to them with a link to the thread. You might get a better response from them. Please give them a second chance. We all make mistakes.
