I have sent many cheques to the USA, and to IMAC in particular.
All I do is write in beside the dollars US Dollars
$20.00 US Dollars
Then in the written place write in
"Twenty United States Dollars"
My cheques have been processed without problems.
If getting a money oreder is a hassle why don't you give that a try

I used to do that, but some of the smaller credit unions wont accept those... been rejected a few times in the past, so I just opened a US account with the Royal bank, and now I can send a cheque to anyone in the USA hassle free (they draw it from a bank in New York).
Believe it or not, I have also been told some of the small banks/credit unions cannot accept a Canadian Postal MO either - only happened to me 2 times.
safest bet is to get a MO from the bank IMO...
