The first flights with the Banshee II were off a paved surface, I'll be drilling out the retracts to accept 5/32" wire instead if the stock 1/8". Takeoffs were not a problem, the landings sorta bent the heck out of them, the retracts were Spring Air 607's. I instructed my test flyer not to cycle them but to keep them down during the test flights though. They worked fine before test flights, but I wanted to make sure there were three wheels on landings. They seemed to handle the weight of the plane on takeoffs as it tracked straight down the runway, the landings were not picture perfect, but not so rough as to damage anything. The 1/8" wire just didn't seem to have the strength for a plane that weighs in at about 7 lbs. I think more problems would have happened if it was on a grass surface which would have caused more drag on takeoff and certainly more drag on landings. If I wanted retracts for grass field operation, I would fit the standard size of retracts, just for the strength over the mini-retracts systems and use as large a wheels as the plane could accomidate to reduce the drag on takeoffs. Otherwise, I would stay with belly landings even though I would have to walk out to retrieve the model.
