Re: night flying

I love night flying.

But summer time night flying sucks. WAY too many mosquitoes and you get eaten alive.

But Fall and Winter night flying? AWESOME!!!!!

Best thing to do is get some LED strips in Red, Green, and any other colours you like.

I find I like a strip of colour on the leading edge of the wing, and then another strip on the top and bottom of each wingtip. This allows you to see the wing when it is above and also when it is coming at you head-on. When its coming head-on all you see is the leading edge, and the strip of LED's on the leading edge clearly give you a visual of the planes bank angle.

I also like a strip of LED's on the fuselage to tell me whether the fuselage is pointed up, down or level.

On my last model, I also added a strip of white light to the top of the rudder to help see the rudder more clearly. This helps a lot when landing.

Here are some pictures of some of my models when set up with LED's in the manner I describe.

Here is a video of my model after I added strobes on it:

Re: night flying

I agree with Max, too many mosquitos and black flies in the summer. Fall, winter and spring are fantastic.

Colored lights, top, front and bottom of the leading edge. You should also consider something along the fuselage sides and bottom.

Although this is home designed and built as a slow flyer with the lights inside the wing. I had to modify it by adding lights on the leading edge. It flies for 20 plus minutes on an 1800 Mah 2 cell, the lights run on a 360 Mah 3 cell. (We get lots of people show up at the field chasing down the UFO they've seen, roflol.)

From the rear.
