BD-5

Sure thing !
Wing span is 68" and length is 48". It is basically a standard www.jetmartusa.com kit but mine has beefed up wing spars and modified engine mounts to accomodate a turbine.
This all started with some talk with Ronnie at Jet-Mart on a couple of ideas for this conversion. As far as I know, this one will be the first turbine version of his kits. His ducted fan version is one "sweeeeet" flying plane though!
I'm not real sure what the finished weight will come out to because it is origanlly designed as a ducted fan kit.
So far things are going good and I'll keep the updates coming as I progress along!

Yes, it's a nice change from all the Roos, Hotspots etc. To bad I'm slow at building because i'm starting to get excited!
One little surprise I just found out about the kit while I was cutting for the ailerons and flaps is, the carbon fiber sandwiched between the balsa and foam covers the entire wing! Ronnie had origanally told me that the cf only goes half way out the length of the wings. Should be nice and strong.
They are a cute plane!

Cool mate! So where do the intakes go? Iam guessing naca style inlets either side with no need for intake ducting.
Interesting engine location as well.... I would have though the TJT-2000 would go in the back sitting almost in the tail, but then the C.G. would be way back...

What colour scheme do you have planned? 007 maybe...

That really does look like a very hassle free set-up though eh!

This plane is tail heavy plane to begin with. In order to keep the balance within reason, it is neccessary to move the engine as far forward as I could. Even with the pipe installation, having the engine more forward will help big time.
If you check out Ronnies plane on the Jet-Mart site, you will see where the intakes are located on his DF version. On mine they will be just a bit more forward than that but I can also make them smaller.
I also plan on having the battery packs located on the nose gear mounting plate. It's fairly big and should be no problem.
re: Color schemes
I was thinking about painting it the same as Scott Mannings BD-5. This is the white one that was at the Quinte International Airshow in Trenton this past summer. BUT, looking at the F-18 Tiger thread I got thinking..........

Another BD5

My neighbor built a BD5 a few years back that might interest you. He had extended the nose to a point which gave the plane a really sleek, mean look (read, not cute lol). Since it's still flying, it would be a scale subject. Not sure about the color though, all black. He sold it last year but I'm sure I can get some pictures from him. Dave said if he didn't sell it' he end up being buried in it. I does feel a bit like a coffin when you lower the hatch down! Was he saying it wasn't a safe plane?

Hey Shaun,

I thought I saw one fly at the Kelowna Hydro races a number of years back? Was that your neighbor?
