float for my beaver

I am looking for plans, jigs, or ways to make foam float for my new 6 ft unionville beaver. Can someone help me?? By the way does anyone know what size 4-cycle engine i should put in to fly on floats. I know that the space is limited and wondering if a 91 4-cycle would fit.

Marc, what size Unionville Beaver are you building? Radial or Turbo Beaver?

I believe that Unionville has float kits available at very reasonable pricees most of their kits, especially the Beavers, Otters and Norsemen's! If you still want to build your own you could get the deminsions on line or from someone here at RCCanada. It relatively easy to cut foam cores and use balsa to sheet them with. Finish cover them and your all set!

The 6' Beaver calls for a .40 to .50 four stroke
The 8' Beaver suggests .90 to .120 four stroke

If your planning on building the floats I would stick to the higher end of the engine range.

Anyone out there got the deminsions for these floats?

Jollidude has a 6' unionville Beaver on scratch built up floats. Believe he has a saito 56 in it. Plenty of juice for float flying.

Beaver Floats

Scale float length for the 6' Beaver is 33". I used a set of plans from an old JR Roberts Stinson SR6 and scratched them. Had to loft a few formers that weren't shown on the plan. The strut assembly is my own design. If you have any questions feel free to ask. The Saito 91 would be way overpowered. Even with the Saito 56, I had to add 3 oz. of tail weight (Yes, TAIL weight). Plenty of power.
