Merco is an old british name and the engine you have probably dates as far back as the 1970s.They were sold at bargain prices at the time and showed up everywhere as a consequence, but Webra was the preferred performance engine everyone wanted. Some owners swore by the Merco particularly for scale use.
I remember owners rigging dual leads to light both plugs at starting, and also some other owners starting the engine on one plug and then moving the lead to the other plug.I do not know whether that process was necessary.

Good Morning

I gave mine away as a door prize at one of our events to a former Brit. I started mine on one glow plug and touched the other after the engine started.
Mine was a .49 and I soon switched to Webra .60s for my pattern stuff.

I had a Merco .61 in 1972. It was my first .60 size engine. I also started it with only one plug lit and then lit the other plug once it was running. As far as I can remember it ran okay that is until it blew one plug right out of the head. I replaced it with an Enya .60 X which was a great engine for its day

merco 61

I have a merco 61 water cooled single plug engine in a Prather Deep Vee 40" (which is for sale, BTW). I never had a problem getting the engine start with the V-belt. The only trouble I had was transitionning from 1/2 throttle to full. I attributed it to the needle valve assembly and switched it out with an OS assembly. I haven't tried it since (moved away from the water).
