Wow!! What a thread. :

I may the only one in Canada but MAAC provides me with exactly what I need at this time. Insurance, a voice to the government when it is required ("new" frequencies just to mention one instance), and the promotion of every aspect of model aviation. Yes, this includes model rockets, gliders and, for those who know me well, helicopters (I hate them). If any special interest group has the opportunity to hold a world class event why would they not do it? Why would it be a bad thing? I have modeled everything from rockets to rubber free flight to 1/2a to CL , to RC gliders, trainers, fighters and giant scale and have enjoyed them all. Each has their place in this hobby and should be promoted by our national organization and accepted (or at least tolerated) by all. As long as everyone eventually gets a crack at the limited pot of funds why would anyone else have an issue with a fellow modeler having his turn?

To all MAAC board members, zone directors and club executives across the country. Job well done, very few others will do it. Are you all perfect? Of course not. Will I bring up any negatives or criticisms? Not until I am ready to jump in and try to do what I think is right and, for several reasons, today is not that day so, again, I commend you all for giving your time freely, sacrificing time with your family and doing a job that needs to be done so that we modelers can continue doing what we like.

Everyone has different needs from a national organization and I believe that overall MAAC has done a good job at trying to satisfy all of them. Unless we are are tolerant and understanding of the needs of those who have interest other than ours we are all destined to be miserable in our hobbies and our lives.

Ian, jump into MAAC and fix things. I'll vote for you and do whatever I can to get others to vote for you to. I'll also be taking bets as to how long it will take for others to talk about you... This is not saying that you wouldn't do a good job, you probably would. You just would not be able to keep everyone happy and there will be some who will have no issues at calling you on it.

And I was really trying to stay out of this one...really..
