Further to my earlier post, you guys are bang on about the
wood quality, workmanship , covering etc. to maximise
profit these aircraft and others like it are mass produced with
little care given to quality, the comment they are very pretty
is correct. On the surface many things are dressed up but
when you get to the meat About the wing folding up,
when we checked it we were astounded at the poor quality
of the wood used in the main spar and many ribs. And in
this area you can't check or reinforce so you trust it
For a beginner looking for a trainer if "budgets dictate" one
may be ok for mild flying with a 40 engine, but still beef up
all accessible glue joints.
IMO if your looking at high speed
or aerobatics build your own or buy an arf but from a quality
well established firm, you'll pay a bit more but will be way ahead
in the end. Andrew is right also l would never buy sight unseen
open the box up and thoroughly check it. And as far as reviews go
how many really bad reviews are printed? $$ aside safety is an
issue here also. Just my 2 cents.

As a club instructor I've flown the VMAR Chipmunk, Harvard, Stilleto, Navaho, Apache, and Extra for various people. The covering is like shelf paper with graphics printed on it, the wood is heavy and brittle, the glue looks like hot glue or something.
None of them flew very well or are still flying.
1/2A all the way!

It's mine

I know it says it's Colin's name, but i forgot my login password. It was my Hero ( what you get when you cross a Zero with a Havard). After Colin and I spent many countless hours trying to get wood to bond and finally put REAL covering back on,, it weighed about 5 and 3/4 pounds without the motor. Not bad but when you consider that after the maiden flight, I needed to add about 1 1/2 pounds to the nose in order to get anywhere near the CG,, IT WAS A PIG!!!! Short story made even shorter,,,,, it sucked and I sold it to someone else AFTER I TOLD THEM WHAT WAS WRONG ( he was also the one who did the maiden flight.)

If you don't have time to do it right this time, how are you going to have time to do it again?

I second almost everything bad that was said about Vmar .... I had a couple ... not that I bought new but aquired second hand ... I had an older one a few years back ... cant remember the name ... was a low wing semi- foil ... I had a speed webra 40 in it and was it ever a BLAST!... flew great until the tail came apart ... she then rotated into the ground... spend $10.00 more and buy a SEAGUL kit .... they are about the lowest priced arfs out there now that have OK quality.
