RCAF Chipmunk

I'm having trouble finding some three-view drawings of the Canadian version of the Chipmunk.

Anyone that either has a three-view available, or that could point me in the right direction? There seems to be quite an amount of information on the British version, but I've pretty much exhausted google on the subject!

Also about the same plane, I've tried finding information on the Canadian paint schemes, but also came out empty - what's exactly the difference between the yellow/black Chipmunk, and the yellow/red/black Chipmunk?

thank you in advance for any help!

Chipmunk

First, I would like to say that the official designation of the Chipmunk is the DHC-1, DHC is DeHavilland Canada, -1 is first design by the Canadian facility. This means that any 3-views you may have now are for a Canadian Chipmunk, all other variations are exactly that- variations. In its life, the Chipmunk went through factory mods (first ones had canopies molded from flat sheet, later went to full bubble) to Art Scholl's beast with the big engine, but they were all Chipmunks to start. Take your pick.

As far as markings are concerned, check out Milberry's "Canada's Air Force Vol 3"; should be available at your local library. There are many photos of Chipmunks in various colour schemes from the origiinal silver doped, to the trainer yellow, to a camouflage. After that, I figure that they were painted a lot of different ways!

There are a number of references to DH aircraft, most of which carry information on the Chipmunk including 3-views.

I've seen a number of models, from the usual US kits to rubber power, they all fly well for a low-winger. What size/power are you planning on?

Chipee

Here are some links that may help
http://www.rcaf.com/aircraft/database/chipmunk/
http://www.warplane.com/pages/aircraft_chipmunk.html
http://www.flightresearch.com/Aircraft/Chipmunk.htm

The Canadian version had the bubble canopy while the British version had the birhouse canopy (frames) except for the first two RCAF Chipmunks 001, and 002 had the birdhouse canopy.

Our flying buddy Sabrejock soloed in a Chipmunk back at CFS Clairsholm.

3 view of the Cdn & British version and a photo my my Chippe below

TLyttle, sorry, I should have said RCAF and RAF version instead of Canadian and British versions. But this is all good information.

I'll be building the Airsail Chipmunk, which needs something between a 30 and 40 sized engine (69 inch wing - apparently built very light), but I'll be using the only engine I already have - a 46FX. Airsail offers both the bubble canopy version (which is the one I ordered), and the greenhouse canopy.

Kenair, thanks for the 3-views, the first (more detailed version) I already had, but it has the greenhouse canopy instead of the bubble canopy, but I like that second one too, which I didn't have (already saved to my Chipmunk folder). Your Chipmunk also looks very nice, gives me a small twinge of impatience - the hobby shop didn't have the RCAF Chipmunk in stock, so I'm waiting, and waiting

In the first link you gave you can see the red/yellow Chipmunk, which is the one I prefer, but I have trouble finding more information on that color scheme. As for the all metal color and yellow/black only schemes, I saw smallish pictures of them at the Blackflyaero website and I think they got them from the canadian warplane museum.

I have a 3 view of the Canadian version of the Chipmunk, but I have no idea as to how to post it. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you a scan.

Any idea where I can get a bubble canopy (typical canadian style) for the Dynaflite Chipmunk?

There is a company in BC called Coastline Hobbies that makes a bubble canopy that will fit the Dynaflite Chipmunk. I purchased one several years ago. I have a link that no longer works so you may have to do some searching. Good luck. It's a great flying aircraft.
