So today was the last real nice warm day in the north country.
decided to take the Gentle Lady out to the big slope. Blue skies and
20 kmH west wind blowing steady. When I arrived at the slope, I noticed a big hawk in a
steady hover at about 150 feet. A good sign that it would be a good day! Launch
was a bit tricky with the strong breeze, but out she went. Flew around for ten or fifteen
minutes checking out lift and then I got it. Specked it out at about 600 feet altitude.
Had to feed in down elevator so I wouldn't lose sight of it. An hour and twenty minute flight and the transmitter started beeping.....on dry cells!Stiff neck, but big smile.

Excellent Dave! Cool nights now with still enough strength in the sun makes for killer thermals. Better than mid summer!
Hang time does not apply to ceiling fans, light fixtures, overhead door tracks or basketball nets!

Re: Gentle Lady at 600 Feet

I miss days like that. I dont live near a slope anymore. But when I did slope, fall and winter were great because of the strong winds. On days like that, landing is a real thrill because the winds are so strong at the peak (where we are standing). Run like hell to get to the plane once you land before the wind grabs it and cartwheels it .
