I stumbled on the 2nd half of an hour long discovery show on model rockets the other night.

Besides the fact that they managed a full hour on Discovery, I was struck by the similarities of what attracts me to my hobby of RC Aircraft.

It was obvious that they are every bit as dedicated and obsessed with their hobby (and then some) as anyone I have every met in the airplane hobby. The real similarity comes with the great comradery of like-minded folks getting together to BS and have some fun away from the "real world" stuff.

I've seen demos at some aircraft events and like many, quielty said to myself, "I don't get it?".............................but I found myself unable to turn the channel and was impressed with the entirety of the event and found myself quite interested.

I'm not about to run out and start into rockets,.....................but

...................... I think I get it now.

I also noted that their safety proceedures and checks were impressive to say the least. Despite an accident, which took place during the filming, (minor injuries) I still was left with a good impression of the fun they had and their concern for keeping it as safe as possible.

Worth a watch if you are able to catch a repeat some time.

yeah, neat stuff to go 1450 mph. There were a few accidents and stuff, but nothing that they weren't prepared for.

The one thing I didn't get......288 rockets at the same time .....why????

The sooner you fall behind, the more time you will have to catch up.

hehe................ yep, that was a lot of rockets.

.............but you sat around waited till the end to see if they managed to pull it off though..........same as I did. They managed to hold my interest till the credits.

They did it for the same reason anyone goes for a world record.....I guess.

Too bad about that 20 footer..................I really wanted to see that baby go, but was glad that nobody was seriously injured. The cause did sound familiar...................."wires reversed".
