Re: Airworld 1/4 scale F104

Amazing and thanks for the posts/pics. What a build this will be!

I am finally getting started on my SM104 so it looks like 2016 will be the year of the Zippers. A 300 will have that thing vertical and accelerating...great fun.

Re: Airworld 1/4 scale F104

My plan is to have this ready for WJ next year.
I am also still working on my own Hawk, and I am awaiting a glider with a 20' long wing to arrive, so lots to take up the cold nights this winter.

Doug, the 104 is nice to work on, what's you plan with the slats?
And FYI Be sure to use a gear valve that stays sealed when power is off or the Gear will collapse over in the pits! I ended up with a UP8 and a servo, now it holds air for days.

Hi Richard

I love the UP valves and prefer them to the Jetronics as they allow much easier setup and they hold air for days. The 104 gear will have a quarter turn valve to lock the gear down when not flown for a while. However, it will be transported in a cradle to fit in the van properly so the gear is not an issue. My F16 has the same issue but the UP valve holds air all day.

As for the slats I will make them funtional. Short metal arms, good geometry, and 2270 Savox should make them safe. I have the upgraded slat hinges from SM. Can't wait to get on with it but likely will start after Xmas.

Keep the pics coming on your monster build.

Re: Airworld 1/4 scale F104

So I got going on this over Christmas, very nice quality kit, and I must say it's been very nice to deal with Ali on this build, he has been very good at keeping in touch and providing me with all the top stuff, parts keep arriving daily.
So I will try to post some photos, hopefully not one at a time!
1- all Delams have been injected, mostly on fuse.
2- nose cone installed to rotate counter clockwise slightly and come off.
3- fuse formers are all in
4- piano hinges used to install Gear doors, PIA but works and looks great
5- gear installed ( so nice looking!)
6- rear portion of canopy installed to slide and lock into fuse.
7- discovered crack in rear portion of fuse former holding tail assembly to fuse!
I hope I can post more than 1 photo at a time.
