Hey,

I have been trying to attach mylar space blanket to a carbon fiber frane for a slowflyer and not having much luck, I have tried to use glue sticks and ca but no success.

Will spray 77 work? or can it be heat sealed?

Does anyone know if the myalr will shrink afterwards,

I have used mylar quite a bit in the past to make the envelope for blimp bags and I simply use a hobby sealing Iron and seal it using a 1/4 " of overlap. The dull sides of the mylar are sealed together NOT SHINY sides.

Mylar will not shrink or expand but be careful when handling and cutting it as it will tear very easily once nicked with a knife or sissors. If your trying to seal it around a frame, put something behind it to press against while sealing it, test the heat on a piece of scrap, too much heat will quickly burn/melt through the mylar. Use your iron carefully and only press enough to turn the surface a bit dull. When finished sealing one side, flip it over and go around the other side and always take your time and be careful.

Once sealed properly you will have a very strong sealed joint. Like I said earlier, if you have some scrap pieces, use these to practice on first to get use to it.

If perchance you totally wreck it, let me know and I can send you another piece of silver or white mylar.

Good luck and have fun.

A friend of mine who has a company in Brantford will sell you some. He has both the silver and white available. Let me know if and how much you need and I can get it for you!

hey thanks guy's

i have been useing a 'space blanket' i got from canadian tire in the camping gear, but i'm not sure thats true mylar, it has the almunium finnish and it did shrink a little. I had to use a super hot heat gun and learned a hard lesson about heating Carbon fiber rods that are bent.

Is there a way to attach it to cf frame without heating it, I used some 3m double sided scotch tape and rolled the mylar arround it woked ok but alot of wrinkles. I didn't heat shrink it again, i did not want to snap the rod again.

I'm trying to make a IFO type or a BUGZ type inside flyer but am having trouble finding a good low heat covering.

Thanks to the help
