Its a lapped seam, so you can see in the pictures that on one mold half the top of the fuse is trimmed and the bottom is not (about 1" overlap), and on the other the bottom of the fuse is trimmed and the other is not. When they join the halves they push down the overlapped cloth to make the joint. Its very strong and resistant to cracking, but must be done before the epoxy has set to get the proper bond. You can see it in image pl1.jpg

For the white coating, its not gelcoat but PPG Concept white primer paint (or similar). I dont know much about that part of the process.

Just for reference, a fuse of that size (78" long, 12-13" high, 6" wide) weighs in at about 26 oz, or 1lb 10oz. The cloth layup is 2 oz glass, followed by 1.7 oz kevlar from the wing back, 5.7 oz carbon wing forward, 1/8" 1lb white foam laminate, then another 2 oz glass.

They aint cheap though, one of those kits will run upwards of $1700 CND
