Pinion gear slipped
Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Am using a Graupner speed400 and 1-4 gearbox. The green Locktite supplied was used to attach the pinion gear. It worked for a week while we played around with different props and battery packs, then it slipped. Should I use green Locktite or will Red 271 suffice? Thanks, any help is greatly aprreciated.

From my understanding, Most guys use the green loctite (make sure its Loctite 609) and let is set for 24 HOURS. You can get a primer for loctite which supposedly helps get a tighter bond. This is only info I've read.

Thanks Ron. All I had handy was Red271 and it's still holding. It was a tight smooth fit when new and maybe just not enough sealant was able to stay on the shaft when the gear was pressed on. Also roughed up the shaft with a small jewelers file as I had nothing to lose before applying the Locktite. Left it overnight to cure also.
The thing is the motor shaft had to be shortened before assembling into the gearbox and maybe the end got contaminated with finger oil before the gear went on thereby affecting the Locktite bond.
