This RC sailing is starting to sound like a lot of fun, trouble is I have rivers, ocean and a couple of smallish ponds. One of the ponds is about 100 feet long and maybe 60 feet wide, would that be big enough?

Re: sailboat just looking

This was supposed to be a Greek sailing warship, but when I found out they tossed the sailed on shore before they rowed into battle I decided to go with the oars only. The oar mechanism and build has taken me a year and a half to get to this point, all scratch built and a lot of head scratching went into it.

that would be perfect if it is deep enough. When you get better set up a course with a weight on a string and empty plastic bottles. Change it for wind direction

Re: sailboat just looking

Thanks for the compliment Jim I have an extensive build thread of it on two model ship building sites, Model ship builder and Model ship world in there you will see the inner mechanics of it and how I figured out how to do it. It's almost done now I should have everything complete this spring.

Re: sailboat just looking

I've got a couple of boats that have been sitting 1/2 built for some time now.

One is a Balsa canoe. I wonder if I can stick oars on it like bensidus197217 did. So cool!!!!

Re: sailboat just looking

Bit of head scratching and work and I'm sure you can. The next one will be Charon the boat man of the river Styx that guy will be using one oar I just figured out how I'm going to do that.

Re: sailboat just looking

Hello I would recommend the Dragonforce RG65 class sportboat to anyone interested in trying their hand at rc sailing. Unless you are looking for something more scale.
http://www.atomikrc.com/products/joy...tr-rc-sailboat

I fly Sailplanes mainly and got interested in the dynamics between the sail, keel, and rudder on a sailboat.
