Time to stop the bickering

To all,
As an interested observer of this forum I ask you all to bury the many hatchets and stop this irrational and hateful bickering. It is very bad for combat.

Non combat fliers reading this forum will be appalled at the hateful, spiteful, character assassinations going on here. Please stop.

The Canadian RC Combat rules are going to be changed, of that I have no doubt. Those who want them changed are in the position to change them so they will. No amount of name calling, insulting, or even level headed reasoning is going to change the fact. The rest of you either need to get with the program or get out. There is no middle ground - you are either in or you are out. But, please stop the insults, the bashing, and the entrapment rhetoric. The battle is over and the outcome is clear.

RC Combat is a recreation of WWII combat, except we don't have guns on our planes to shoot down our enemies, instead we cut their streamers. A realistic re-creation would be one in which the objective was to shoot down the opposition, destroying their plane in the process.

We don't do that but we simulate being in position to down our opponents by removing the trailing streamers. I want to make this point very clearly - the event is about competition between pilots, with a secondary objective to have attractive, but ultimately disposable airplanes. That is what WWII was all about - destroying the oppositions airplane.

If you want people to participate you will need to understand that the competitive drive that causes them to compete also causes them to want to win, not at the building table but in the sky with a transmitter in their hands. To have pilots who are not aggressive you would have to provide Prozac in advance of the contest to keep them from being too competitive.

There are those who will come down on the side of scale purity and fidelity, and others who will come down on the side of competition and combat. It doesn't matter which group is right, it matters that the interest that supports and grows RC Combat is the one that is upheld. In the US we have had month's long arguments over scale rules, but the result was that those making the rules were not necessarily the ones who participated in the event. Those who participate are the ones who will grow the sport.

From what I can tell, and this is from long distance, the rules that are being made are being tested and enacted by small groups with the belief that their results and feelings are mutually agreed too by others across your vast country. This may not be an accurate assessment. We in the US have learned the hard way that testing needs to be done to assure the result you predict is the one you achieve, which is often not the case.

The time for compromise is at hand. Try to meet the other side halfway. It would be a terrible shame if you did not fly any combat because of small details on airplanes and scoring.

Instead of taking a truculent position and sticking too it, offer the other side an olive branch and offer the perspective that your opinion can be changed if good reasons for doing so are put forth. If you go into these discussions with your mind made up no good is going to come of it.

Just my .02.
