started r/c with a 5 channel Kraft, added a 6 channel Cox/Sanwa, had a couplo of Futaba Gold Series, an Airtronics Seven channel, JR Expert, JR 622. I'm sure I've had a couple of others in there.
Now fly JR 783. would like a JR 10 something or other

no complaints with any of them really

the best thing is to buy what the common unit is for your area - then if you have a problem you might have access to someone who had the same isue.

Radios are a pretty personal thing. We of course all seem to love the ones we have the best....

Seriously, I have only held two transmitters that I didnt feel very comfortable with (fairly new radios), and I dont want to say what they are becuase guaranteed it will start a battle here which isnt going to help anyone.. All I will say is before you spend a lot of money on a radio IMO it is allways a good idea to get one in your hands to hold and "play fly" with, ie, hook it up to your neck strap and pretend youre flying, try hitting the switches and working the trims. Nothing is more frustrating than not being comfortable with your new purchase.

You wouldnt buy a car without a t least sitting in the seat for a while, would you? A radio shouldnt be any different.

Same with the programming, but unless you can borrow a manual or see one on line, its probably best to talk to a few guys that use them.
