Plans swapping forum?

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Hey Jason,

I don't know how many would be interested in this, but how hard would it be to create a space where modelers can share plans? You know, something where anyone who wants to share their plans can up load them for anyone to their own risk ...well maybe not risk, but you know what I mean

Anyone else interested in such a forum?

Sounds like a great idea Dean, but how do I upload plans that are 4 feet by 3 feet or bigger :

My scanner is only 8.5 x 11

That said , I do have all the plans from any magazine I have thrown out

And there are all those plans in the hundreds of magazines I still have.

Admittedly, I am not the most computer savvy person on here, and I think Jason can attest to this, but I'm sure that one of the tech guru's will have some advice Anyone know how to help?

To the best of my knowledge, any drawing can be manipulated in even basic programs like Paint, and Corel, so my guess is that even scanned in by your 8.5x11, the end user should be able to print it out to what ever size they like, (depending on the the level of rez you scanned it in, I guess) and using a basic printer, print the end result in tile, and tape it all together

Any attorneys on here...I believe one once told me that if a drawing is published in a magazine, that people can print and share it with-out any problems because it was made public, or something like this correct?

I would be very interested in a plans forem as well.

There is a shop right here in Stoney Creek that will duplicate, inlarge and reduce plans for only pennies a square foot. A large sheet could be easily reduced to a standard 8 1/2 X 11" sheet, scanned into your computer file and uploaded to the forem. They will provide you with the reduction scale so you know how large to blow it back up.

Even though there is some cost involved in this method, I think this would be a lot simpler and easier than trying to scan a large drawing in a number of small sections and then having to piece it all together.

This is just a thought but I think, for me anyway, its the best way to do it and you don't have to be a computer wiz to manage!

At work I do estimating for construction where we belong to a plans depository. They have 36" wide by any length scan, print capabilities. I just got them to print working copies for a future project and they saved the files to a disc for me. Incidently the plans were a little over 100" long.

Not a bad idea. If anyone has plans they want to put up for swap, just email them to me and I'll make a special section on the site.

I will only post plans that are of your own design or are made available to the public.
