Choosing a 50cc airframe

I have multiple 40% planes and a looking for a 50-60cc airframe (30%). I am a bit tired of the commitment it takes to get ready to fly the 40%'ers: hauling trailer, set-up, ball$$$$. I'm looking for a good quality airframe that is available in Canada that I can put in the truck and go. I have looked at Aeroplus, Aeroworks, Extreme Flight, and Hanger-9. Looking for a bit of guidance.

Re: Choosing a 50cc airframe

Hi Kent,

I'm not sure what type of flying you are into (ie: 3D, IMAC, Sport).

I personally enjoy 3D flying and like Extreme Flight, 3DHS and Pilot RC. I have personal experience with all three of them and they are light, well built planes. They are well suited for 3D. I presently have an Extreme Flight 60cc Yak 54 and a Pilot RC 50cc Edge 540 and they both fly awesome. I do like that my Extreme Flight Yak uses carbon fibre stringers along the bottom of the fuse which makes it very strong.

I have heard good things about Aeroplus and would consider it in the future although I have no personal experience with it.

AMR RC (Canadian) is a dealer for Pilot RC and Extreme Flight, 3DHS and Aeroplus can be purchased through PRO-RC, also Canadian.

Good luck!

Dave

I am really liking the Edges right now! Can't justify over 1K for a 50cc plane though, so that eliminates the Aeroworks. I am seriously looking at the Aeroplus Edge 540 V3 in the VW scheme or a Pilot RC Extra 330. Not sure yet.

Re: Choosing a 50cc airframe

I really like the Extreme Flight ARFs, and you're not too far from Pro-RC...that gets you a good source for Extreme Flight, 3DHS and Aeroplus. I just picked up a used 91" 3DHS Yak off Trevor Brum...he highly endorses this airframe, has owned 3. I think it's ugly as hell, but that has a strange appeal to me, and I'm more concerned with how it flies.

Anyway, don't think you can go wrong with anything from Extreme Flight and I think Pilot is one the more economical options, but I've never owned one. I have an Aeroworks currently and not really sure they are worth the price premium they demand.

Go with the Aeroplus Edge 540 V3. That VW scheme looks great!!

Re: Choosing a 50cc airframe

My only concern is, would it be hard to see?

You will be hovering it 10 ft off the ground right in front of yourself after a few flights so seeing it wont be a problem....lol. I have had good luck also with Pilot, 3DHS and Aeroplus.

good luck with whatever you choose.

Re: Choosing a 50cc airframe

I have the red white and blue aeroplus edge awesome flyer. My neighbour has the vw scheme and it is actually pretty easy to see. Here's a vid of each scheme from Xmas holidays when we were flying at the trout farm.

Re: Choosing a 50cc airframe

I had the Extra from Extreme Flight, sold it like a fool. But if I were to buy another I would go for Extreme Flight again, well built and light.
