Not to belittle the actual dangers, but IMO if most of the stuff we use in this hobby (CA glues, old style model cements, dope, and carbon fibre, fibreglass, microbaloons, etc) were as bad as we sometimes hear/read, 1/2 of us would be dead a long time ago.

Yes, I personally know people who have had reactions and overexposure to some of these - thats why it is important to take some basic precautions. But we (again, I generalise based on the amounts that I and most of my modeler friends use) are using relatively small quanities of these substances and the relative exposures are again, low.

I remember when I was a kid playing with raw asbestos. I am still here... but if you listen to just the media and what is passed along its the most dangerous stuff there is...

So, like I allways say, use the stuff with the proper basic protective measures and you shouldnt have a problem. IF you DO have some sort of reaction to anything you are using (have seen this happen to guys with long term exposure to epoxy) either for the first time or after many uses, stop and find out why...

"common" sense once again prevails...

I hear you. I remember me and two friends sharing a pop out of the same bottle and all of us lived

That's what struck me as odd. Most of the modelling guys out here I know have the common sense approach (don't drink CA, for example) but micro balloons seem to have lots of people a bit spooked, hence my question.

Let's face it, if we look at the dangerous stuff we did as kids, it's amazing we're still here (ever wear a helmet with your bicycle? )

Oh well, glad at least to get that discussion out there

Heck, we used to bust up discarded car batteries and melt the plates down in a tin can over a small open fire and pour the molten lead into ingots so we could have bars of "gold" for "pirate treasure"!

It hasn't had any effect.. had any effect.. had any effect.. effect.. effect....

I agree, common sense, and minimize exposure.

Let's face it, if you go by what is in the media, to survive these days you don't dare drink the water, breath the air or eat the food.
