DeHav Twin Otter

Gentlemen:

Twin otter in the works, 9 foot wing span, have lots of pix of aircraft detail but would like to know if any float plans available.

The Western Canada flyers have twotters flying out there, seen the pics in the mags, soooooo, any plans guys ???

I hate the idea of CADing a set from the 1/72 plastic model. that will take as much time as the aircraft construction..

Anything ??

Darren:

Well now, what picture would you like ?? All my are pics are of full scale aircraft, but I have plans that I intend on starting after I finish my Turbo Beaver, modified UnionVille with detailing they dont provide.

Get your wife involved in Quilting or Painting, no problems thereafter

Back to the Twotter, here's a couple of pics to WET your appetite.

Pics of model Otter

Just wanting to see pics of your model Otter.... But I see you havn't started... I have a set of the old RCM plans, for twin .25-.35 engines... blew them up to 1/6 scale...O MY GOD...that was a bit too big... so blew them up to have a 10' wing span. Should work with twin .50's or .60's...
Anyways I'm like you I got a 36" WS Turbo beav i'm working on (shrunk the 8' Unionville plans) and also the Tubo Otter right now... ...

Darren,

Show us some pics of your progress on the Turbo Otter! It looked great in the last photos you had.

Cheers!

You Must keep us posted on this topic. At this time I've never heard of a set of plans that are a decent scale job of this plane.

We were going to try and produce one about a year ago but things ground to a halt once I ran into problems trying to figure out exactly how to work the flaps and flaperons. Martin Rousseau from www.mraerodesign.com were discussing this a lot last fall and once I realized that his version is the same size and would probably be a much nicer version I put it on the back-burner. Last I heard from him it's probably due out next winter or so. 100 in wingspan powered by 2 .60's. Mind you with the small nacelles and huge fuse it would be perfect for electrics.

There is a great book: http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASI...537106-8393920 that has 3-views of the Twin Otter on floats and also a couple of decent photos as well.

I picked up a copy from my library.

If you want a ton of pictures goto: www.airliners.net Last time I was there there were about 450 different pictures. Try and also contact the National Museum in Ottawa. They may be able to help you a bit as well.

Another good site is: http://collections.ic.gc.ca/canadair/dhcframes.htm
During my quest for info I didn't come up with a whole lot honestly but if I find where I put all my stuff I researched I'll let you know.

We also had a thread going on this awhile ago as well: http://www.rccanada.ca/bb/viewtopic....701&highlight=

Keep us posted. It's a great airplane and I think there are wayyy.... too few of them in model form. Too many colour options to choose from though.

Nony:

That's a poor example of a float Twotter , not regulation floats, and a long nose to boot.
The floats have water rudders showing, which on the real thing there are no such items. The twotter turns by engines alone, it will back up with reverse pitch on both or turn on a dime with alternate forward pitch / reverse pitch on the other. TRY THAT WITH WATER RUDDS. . . . :P

The long nose is just baggage compartment and a pain to get to on floats.

I have lots of pics, lots of examples, lots of tech data but no float plans, so I,m hoping somebody out there has got em

picky.....picky...picky....... like I said it was the ONLY one there (you forgot to mention the wheels!! )

You used to be able to throw a stick in any direction and hit at least 6 of them. Now all the operators seem to be embracing the single turbo otter - carries almost as much, and costs a lot less to operate.

picky, picky, just one more goof up.....

I have picks of Twottter's on amphibs as well as on beechin gear. The turbo otter is certainly getting the nod these days.

Most twin otters are busy flying BC to Antartica. Once you drive one, there aint nothing like it.
