Nothing new...

I knew a guy (NOT a friend) that worked for Canada Post; he said his job was part-time sorter, part-time forward on their Parcel Soccer Team. And all you have to do is watch the sorting system; at the end of a belt, a person picksoff the parcels and literally tosses them into the destination bags, some of them 20' away. A Fragile sticker generates another impromptu soccer game, teams already chosen. Even tv monitoring is not able to stop the abuse, because these guys have bulletproof union protection.

I am not anti-union, I am anti-management. Canada Post has volumes of "regulations", and management is more interested in enforcing them than working with the employees to improve service and care of product. I know this because of my long conversations with my ex-mother-in-law; she told me horror stories of managers enforcing regs on people that were indeed trying to do the job properly.

There is NO REASON for the damage, except for the confrontational attitudes between union and management: "Unions would disappear in the face of fair management"; I can't remember who said it, but I know from personal experience that it's true.

What to do? Phone Canada Post, and get as far up the ladder as you can, and holler: they hate that, it ruins their whole nap.

Napping? Have you been peeking in their windows? Peeking is not nice.

Our mail delivery person is our neighbour across the street. We are lucky, we can yell at her directly if need be.

Shipping Damage

I received my H9 TWIST from G.H. today and after following this "thread" I checked the parcel and "low and behold" there was a "deep gash"(crushed) on one edge. I mentioned it to the "clerk" and told her I'd be back if anything was damaged.

Upon inspection, I found the "gash" went through the outer corrugated cardboard and the kit box and stopped 1/8" from the bottom edge of the front of the "fuse"..

I guess I was lucky this time...I wonder what kind of luck I would have had "making a claim" if it would have been damaged?

At least all you guys got your stuff!!
Back in March I bought an engine from Frank Klenk and had him post it to my daughters in Toronto.
Never made it (a whole what - 250Km from Tillsonburg!)
Six weeks before an insurance claim could be made. That's in process so I don't have my money back yet.
And how many of you have received a birthday card or similar with the end of the envelope neatly slit open so anything in there would have fallen out : : :

Canada Post

I recommend that yelling at the clerk is of no value, ie, don't shoot the messenger, they MUST follow the rules issued by the Brain Dead.

And you don't have to peek: either take the stairs to the next floor (where the suits are) with some papers in your hand and walk about. Some of these guys are so catatonic that lesser staff members take a sheet of glass around, put under their noses, and watch for vapour to make sure they are indeed breathing. Or else talk to your clerk friend, promising anonymity and confidentiality and a friendly drink if they tell you their horror stories. Either way, you will have confirmation of how bad this organisation really is. Purolator (another big bureaucracy tried to breathe some life and logic(!) into it with limited success.

Either way, it may be a good idea to present the packaging or as-received parcel to the closest sorting station (if convenient) and demand to see the Station Manager; he may or may not see you, but the message will be clear: "my next stop is the media, what happens next is up to you". Don't back off, make 'em earn their money, and go to the press if you have to!
