Scratch building a 1/12 Lancaster

A fellow club member and myself decided to dive into this project! I'm putting up some photos of the construction as we go along. It's 102" span (outer panel plug in), 1300 squares, hopefully less than 12 kg (FAI weight limit), powered by 4 OS 52 FS turning Graupner 11 x 7 3-blade props, 6 oz tanks, Century Jet retracts.

Lancaster Construction

I'm using CAD to draw the plans. I hope to make them available after the model has been built, flown, design finalized, etc...

Some new pics of fuselage construction have been added. The fuselage is built in left/right halves, then mated to the center section of the wing, which contains 2 formers epoxied to the fore/aft spars. The bomb bay can be made functional or as a big hatch for accessing the radio equipment. I'm not sure if it will be functional on the prototype (although it would be a good idea for finding any potential problem areas). The formers have 1/4" holes all around them, so that dowel (or carbon fibre rod, pushrod guide tubes, etc) can be added for extra stiffness. I'm not sure how many we're gonna need, but anywhere from 2 - 8 or so can be fitted. The fuselage is 70" long and "should" fit in the average 4 door with the passenger seat reclined. We'll see... If it doesn't, the aft fuselage will have to be detachable.

You can count me in for a set of those plans when you are done . The plane looks great to this point.
