Hey Jim - basically true but maybe a little overstated. CBP (US) and CBSA (Can) are both empowered to enforce regulations on behalf of other federal government agencies. That explains your reference to dog food. That won't be a CBP regulation but likely under a USDA Feeds act or reg's.

In any case, we have not seen or heard of any case of any having an aircraft refused entry, at least up to now. It is theoretically possible that at some point CBP could receive a request from FAA to enforce the rule on their behalf if people are trying to import UAS aircraft. CBP could start to verify whether you have FAA registration. On any given day this is hopefully a non issue but never know. I hope this does not become a border issue but the best way to avoid problems is to register and carry the certificate with you.

As you stated, at this point Canadians need to have a cross border friend or family member that can log into the FAA site and do the registration for you. The hopeful bit of information that we learned yesterday is it may no longer be necessary to use a US address or credit card. Up until now you needed to register with a US address and credit card or get kicked out of the registration system. Sounds like this might have changed very recently and they might be allowing an out of country address. But you still cannot log in from Canada as it blocks your IP address. Fingers crossed that will change in the near future.

Re: 2016 IMAC Season

Took my trailer across the border in the Sault going to Ocala and back through buffalo without even being asked what was in the trailer! All of us flying in Ocala got registered with the FAA for five bucks each courtesy of Ivan K. It was all political as the club requires it of their members. Lot of bullcrap but now we are golden!

Re: 2016 IMAC Season

That is good to know, as I cross the border every year. I have MAAC and AMA and also registered to FAA. And there were several of us Canadians already registered to the FAA in February.
Our club does not require you to be registered as we are interested in flying not politics.
