Insane Fe 30 thoughts

I have to start posting to get my acct. up so as to allow a listing for sale
in the class...section.
On kjj...may as well...
In any case, I'm getting out of the hobby.
I really loved the last few years of RC boating. Maybe I can get out sometime
this spring/summer to use the Merlin.
Have a series of boats...Merlin Eco, Other homemade ones but the main
one I purchased was the Insane Fe 30 and never used it because
it requires a good size pond.
I never thought I would be posting saying getting out of the hobby...sigh
We moved to North York (no ponds near!) and I'm really busy with work, renovations in the house, etc.
This is just a list of the breakdown of things ...If you know anything about
the Hydro's this is a killer. I did my research for 1yr before deciding upon
the big boat purchase.
This is what I had made:
Used remote control hand held device but (receiver is new & waterproof).
The lipos are untouched and brand new from factory.
All wiring changes for the bullets on the lipos were done at Advancerc.
The lipos sit in plastic trays installed inside for a tight fit. No need for velcro
unless you want to add that for extra protection (epoxy installed by me)
All custom built by propchopper :
JRS Carry System-custom design by JRS
Decals by Jeff
Cowl rear hood cut down by me (epoxy secured plastic covered by
black truck bed lining paint)
Traxxas waterproof Rx box
Both shafts pre tinned
rudder bottom rounded to reduce unwanted lift
lead-teflon propshaft bushings
nylon shear bolt on turn fin
extra nylon bolts for motor mount
fitted 3/8" rudder rod pass-through to eliminate rod binding on full
rudder articulation (has rubber boot)
(added rubber o-ring for watertightness at antenna)
addition of the birch ply motor bed insure that motor and flex stay in
cowl safety tabs attached
in preparation for stuffing tube installation a laser was used to find the
exact spot that the shaft points to coming from the strut
yields the best shaft alignment for max smoothness (see pic)
cooling jacket bigger fittings added
re-did the Insane servo mount to lower the arm and allow more travel
solid entry waterline has two benefits ; is on far right away from prop ,
and won't interfere with servo arm

male 5.5 bullets for batteries
spare .187 flex tinned

Lipo Specs: (4 included)
Voltage: 4S1P / 4 Cell / 14.8V
Discharge: 65C Constant / 130C Burst
Weight: 408g (including wire, plug & case)
Balance Plug: JST-XH
Discharge Plug: 5.5mm Bullet Connector
Advantages over traditional Lipo batteries.
• Power density reaches 7.5 kw/kg.
• Less Voltage sag during high rate discharge, giving more power under load.
• Internal impedance can reach as low as 1.2mO compared to that of 3mO of a standard Lipoly.
• Greater thermal control, pack usually doesn't exceed 60degC
• Higher capacity during heavy discharge. More than 90% at 100% C rate.
• Fast charge capable, up to 15C on some batteries.
• Longer Cycle Life, almost double that of standard lipoly technology.
Give my your thoughts!..much appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your water woes bud. That said you take pride in every mod, I like that! So its powered by 2 4s lipo 3700mah and they're tight fitting. Sounds like a great lap racing boat, and since the hydros only turn right, probably its best application. Did I miss the mention of which motor you use and Is it a T180 amp?

I had help from a local user in Toronto who
Has been running fe's for years.
He mentioned to me heat issues with big
Props do not happen with the New series
Of motors compared to the monitoring
Required for the leopard series.
Yea, the lipos are in parallel and sunk in
In other boat setups I used Velcro straps
Etc. But found over time it either needed
Replacing or got super dirty and lost
Tack. This method will not move a micro
Mm. While hitting the water.
Safety tabs were mounted on the cowl
For added security should some tape come
Out during a run. I have never had a cowl
Come off on other boats but you never know.
The ESC is a 180 new speaking waterproof model which had custom wiring connectors setup by propchopper.
Thanks for the kind words about the ability
Of this beast as a lap monster.
